The sombrinha de frevo is a dance prop. The story told in Recife is that it comes down from the capoeiristas who went ahead of the carnival bands clearing the street and wanted something in their hands; over a century it shrank, brightened and became the thing you see now — spun, tilted and thrown overhead while the dancer's feet do all the real work below. Frevo takes its name from ferver, to boil, which is what the crowd was said to do when the band came past. UNESCO listed it in 2012.
Five umbrellas here, cut over a black key with the shirt showing through between the canopies.
For anyone who has been out in the street in Recife in February and come home unable to explain it properly.
You've now found the staple t-shirt of your wardrobe. It's made of 100% ring-spun cotton and is soft and comfy. The double stitching on the neckline and sleeves add more durability to what is sure to be a favorite!
