A blue agave is harvested once, at six to eight years, and that is the end of the plant. Its entire life goes into a single batch.
The jimador strips every leaf away with a long flat blade on a pole called a coa, working around the plant until only the piña is left — a core that can weigh forty kilos or more. It is done by hand because nothing has been invented that does it better, and the job usually runs in families. By law the plant has to be grown in Jalisco or a short list of neighbouring municipalities, which is why the fields around the town of Tequila look the way they do: rows of hard blue-grey spears running to the horizon.
Single-ink linocut in dusty blue-green.
For anyone who has walked out among the rows and seen how blue they actually are.
You've now found the staple t-shirt of your wardrobe. It's made of 100% ring-spun cotton and is soft and comfy. The double stitching on the neckline and sleeves add more durability to what is sure to be a favorite!
